Based on the profile of the hilt and the style of the carving, I would guess it is from the latter half of the 18th century. Interesting as well is the crown and broad arrow blade marking indicating British government ownership. Perhaps the blade had a life before the dirk??

If anyone ends up purchasing this piece I would love to hear a report on your impressions.

Three Scot reproductions here that look to be quality for the price. I don't specifically recognize the maker but I believe it is one of the UK shops. A highland, lowland and a decent looking basket. Someone with extra cash and interest could do worse, methinks. They aren't really my cup of tea but the prices are quite attractive.
