Rapier from The Met - pictures sought
HI Everyone,

I am starting work on as faithful as I can reproduction of the Johannes Moum Rapier from the Met, Accession Number: 04.3.1

Does anyone have pictures that show the hilt from different directions? Very useful even if not great pictures and of course any blade stats would be super useful too.

Many thanks

Tod

Tod,
I'm sure you've seen this, but the Met's online catalogue has some pics/stats: https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/25046

I checked some other Met publications and didn't find anything. I can look at some other books a little later.
HI Guys,

Unfortunately the Met were unable to help me at this time, but an amazingly helpful chap called Todd (not me, two 'D's) popped by and took some pictures for me. I can't post them here without permission, but let's just say I was not expecting the guard to covered in faces and what can only be described as 'lungeing babies'.

Weird world.....

So we have actually decided to change the babies for 'lungeing men' thrusting with rapiers, but leave the faces.

More to come.

Tod
You mean like Putti? I guess that shouldn’t be too surprising, since they were quite popular in the Renaissance.
