You just have to hate when that happens Chad!  Very nice looking sword by the way. I have looked at the Gaddhjalt at Albion's site a couple of times and really like it for it's pure simplicity and brutal look. What color is the grip?

Thanks! The grip is "light brown". It's not very "campaign worn" like the old light brown grips. It's a little less orange than the pics might show.

You are welcome and thank you for the answer Chad. If that is the replacement for their campaign worn I like it a lot. I aminterested to see if pictures in different lighting with a different background will make it look less orange. Nice aquisition and congratulations!

Speaking about lighting and photos - in my humble opinion, most pictures on Albion site is quite awful. Sword looks like made of cheap plastic 
I'm sure it doesn't help too much in selling stuff.
Gaddhjalt picture is quite passable, but your picture Chad is waaay, better, even if lighting makes it too saturated.
It just looks swordy.

I can't take credit for these two pics, Ryan from Kult of Athena took them since I asked how the light brown looked. That's all Ryan.

Chad,
Thanks for buying that Gaddhjalt from Kult of Athena. I had been stairing at it for weeks and was tempted to buy it. I just bought two swords from Albion and another second hand this month. A fourth sword may have resulted in a divorce or death.

Maybe KoA had more than one in stock as the gaddhjalt is still listed as " IN STOCK "  
So maybe you are really " NOT "safe from temptation  
The gaddhjalt was my first Albion and still really like it.
You can easily give up your freedom. You have to fight hard to get it back!

Jean, stop torturing me!  I do love the lines of this sword. It is very clean and graceful and I love brazil nut pommels. I didn't really want the light brown grip since I have that on my Oakeshott. Plus, if I recall correctly, the Gaddhjalt is an edition of 1,000 so I don't need to worry about it running out (price going up: yes).

I got the chance to cut with my new Gaddhjalt today. Pretty fun! I hadn't cut wth a Gaddhjalt in years; in fact, I'd kind of forgotten I'd written our review of it a few years back. 
It's quite the cleaver. I was able to get good cuts when I stopped trying to muscle it through the cut and let its mass distribution do more of the work. It's kind of like swinging a golf club (in concept): If you try to muscle/pull the club through the swing, it screws everything up. Rather, go for a natural body motion and let the sword's engineering work with that natural motion.
Fun stuff. It's so different than my other swords in terms of handling. It's definitely a nice addition to the collection in that respect. Visually it's different than the rest of my stuff, too, with its lighter grip and nifty pommel shape.

There have been a lot of saxes posted around here recently, and I caught sax fever.
Inspired by the original below and by Jeremy Krause's sax, I had Leo (aka "Tod") of Tod's Stuff put together a simple sax for me.
It's a later, Honey Lane-style sax, and I just loved the really long point. I don't have any measurements yet and don't even know what wood the grip is made of. These are Tod's pics. Maybe he'll comment on the materials.
I'll do a full review to be published later, but thought folks might like to see it.

Yes Chad,
I love your new seax! I especially like the handle- very handsome indeed. Yes, I believe the wood must be box- Tod seems to have scored a really nice spalted piece that he has been using on his recent projects.

Sorry for the dreadful pictures.
When I make a piece I knock out some quick pictures on my office carpet just to show the client before shipping so that they know what they are getting and I am afraid that these are some of those. I am sure that Chad will take some far better ones at a later date. I had also not cleaned the the blade down yet and there is still some oil in evidence.
The blade is about 9" and a bit over 1/4" thick at the spine and fitted to a spalted box handle which both Jeremy and Felix spotted. It is very unusual to find spalted box (I have never seen it before or since I found this log) and I am rather unfortunately getting toward the end of my supply. I soak it in linseed for a day or so and it comes up a satin finish in everything from jet black to gold and I think it is an incredibly interesting and beautiful wood; the blade is both bonded and wedged in with holly wedges to help hold it in place.
The scabbard is 3mm vegtan leather and the fittings are brass and give it five or six days and Chad will be opening a package.....................

I'm betting that you'll like this a lot. I've had the chance to check out some of Tod's Saexes with these boxwood handles and they are very nice. So much so that he now has a couple of pieces of mine, an Eric McHugh Saex, and my Albion Clontarf, which will both be getting new boxwood grips.
I'm also betting that you'll like this as much for the scabbard as for the knife itself. I know that you've had some other pieces from Tod, and are familiar with his work, but there is something that I particularly like about his Saex scabbards.
