To my knowledge, Mr Stone donated most of his collection to the Metropolitan Meuseum of Art, (except for 1400 Japanese pieces which went to the Cooper-Hewett Museum of Design, now a branch of the Smithsonion, and 300 non-Oriental pieces which went to the Peabody museum.) Therefore, the Metropolitan Museum should have his Persian black and yellow steel dagger, and maybe some other pieces.he mentions. Again, read George Cameron Stone Glossary etc of Arms amd Armour. You have to read this once a year to get civilized, or ao I am given to understand, as any search and research on a weapon will profit by seeing what George said. It's kinda like you have to read the" Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" to be a civilized gentleman of the world.I have always found that George pretty much did have someting to say about a weapon I was researching, enough to pay my time.
That might indicate where the tulwar is from: I understand that in the era of the Islamic Gunpowder Empires, Safavid blades were prized all over the Moghul empire. Perhaps it's Khorasani wootz? It was a very dark blade, it seemed like the black permeated the whole thing. But maybe that was just lighting and it WAS an etch? Only the V&A museum and God know!
Otto, as long as the original tempering temperature is not exceeded during the etching or bluing process, the blade's performance will not be changed. If the temperature is exceeded, the blade will progressively lose hardness as temperature increases.
