Very cool work. I particularly like the "in progress" pics here and on your site. It's always nice to see what goes into making something to better understand and appreciate the amount of work that goes into making something by hand. I love seeing quality period-style leatherwork being offered. When I first began collecting the swords were cheap and clunky and the scabbards looked like something you'd see with a Bowie knife. You'd go to a Renfest and see everyone wearing black leather with shiny nickel studs and buckles. It looked like the brave knight stopped at a biker bar on his way there. Thank you for doing your part to bring more authenticity to the collecting community and good luck with your enterprise.

Thank you very much. My intentions are always to the customer request, and my goal is to make a scabbard with a period feel. While not always historically accurate to a time frame, as an artist I generally lean towards the commentary stated above "if it look's good, it is good". Of course, if a customer were to request a specific scabbard with a unique construction for the purpose of historical accuracy, I'm more than happy to entertain.

I must say from a fellow leather worker beautiful work! If I can ask where do you get your leather from? That is some of the nicest quality veg tan tooling leather I've ever seen, is that 4 or 8 oz? Also who made the buckle/strap end on the falchion.

Sneak peek at the scabbard. It's complete, but I'll be putting a matching grip on the sword this weekend to fulfill the commission.

Colors are a requested very dark green scabbard with mahogany suspension.

Absolutely gorgeous!

Just a quick question: Are you going to blue/age/darken the buckles and metal fittings on the belt to match the hilt fittings? It is just a personal preference of mine that all the fittings match. I hope that I am not causing any issues with the project. It looks just amazing!

As soon as I save up enough for a high quality sword, and it needs a scabbard, you'll be one of the first people I will contact!

Great work Brian K. !! Really dig the inter laced straps and fine tooling, historical looking and artistic. I'ld like to see an Odin in one of those someday. I'll recomend you to my customers when I can.

Magnificent work, Brian. Could You please post pictures of the other side of the scabbard? I want to make a scabbard for my sword and have read a lot about the construction, but a good picture is worth a thousand words.

How do you hollow out the inside of the slats for the scabbards core? Always wondered how one got a precise depth -- do you use some sort of laser scanner and wood lathe/planer thing?
