I think that looks fantastic. A good size for displaying most swords, I think. |
Stephanie, thanks for the nice comments. Im glad the size makes sense to you. We wanted it to be small enough as not to overpower the swords.

I've always liked the old Roman/Byzantine floor mosaics.
Wonder how hard it would be to translate something like this.
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http:/...l%26sa%3DN
into the metal work like you did with the Kells design.
I could go for something like that for a gladius and spatha display. Of course it might need a size reduction in order not to hide most of the common gladius' length.
Nathan R. I wouldn't mind seeing that work in the off topic some day. I'd display mine but no digi cam , no scanner.
edit. Since I are knot smert enough to get the image to work correctly I put a link in instead.

Allen likes this Viking/Norman design and wants me to make it for the next shield. Any thoughts on this one? |
Yeah, I think that would look great as well a Durer based design. ( The devil and the knight maybe ? ).
You can easily give up your freedom. You have to fight hard to get it back!

I was thinking the same last night.
Some blades like Albion's Soverign, Knecht, vassal, etc have very wide blades.

Tim,
That was one of the biggest challenges we had was how to accomodate any kind of sword in a standardized display. In the end we settled on having the blades rest securely between two layers of closed celled commercial grade foam which was flexible enough to hold any size sword very snug in place.
PM Sam Havercamp about payment instructions.
Thanks,
Allen

Also, I think the slots on this one are about 2 3/4 inches wide which should accomodate just about any sword width.

Tim,
I don't have pictures of the back, but Sam might be able to get one for you since its with him at his shop. It's essentially the same as the front with a wood backing except smaller and with a hanger.

Just a quick note to say I've cleaned up the posts in this topic several times to fix errors in your quote tags and whatnot. I just wanted to ask you all to use the PREVIEW function before posting to make sure your posts look right before you post them and move on... that would save me some work.
If you need help to know how to use the BBCODE tags, look at our Info Page. Remember, all tags have an open tag and a close tag. Open tags are squared brackets with the tag name and closing tags are the same but with a slash ("/") in there like this:
Code: |
[quote]This is quoted text[/quote]
[quote="Nathan Robinson"]This is quoted text from Nathan Robinson[/quote]
|
Thanks
no need to respond to this...

Nathan,
I am intrigued by the Durer Ink, care to expound on that?

I really like this design. I think it would translate really well.. I would hand cut the whole thing so it will have a human feel to it. Outstanding!
Tim and Thomas,
Here is a picture of the back. Its just shy of an inch thick.
This whole thing is made really well. I think it may be best for me to core out 2 holes on the back and mount some metal plates half covering the holes for mounting.
The shield mounts on the front as a bolt passes through its center. The threaded spike holds it fast.

Greetings,
I think the Riders of the Apocalypse (The Four Horsemen) would make a challenging design. I am really trying to stretch myself even thinking about work this complex, but Im not saying I wont give it a boyscout try.
I did do some complex engraving on a small project not too long ago, so that helps a little.
The trick will be how much 3D and dealing with the different levels of depth.. I will also have to shape it into a convex circle.
Hmmmm
