No pics or even a sword yet, but I thought I'd mention my upcoming "next" sword: the Albion Maximilian.
[ Linked Image ]

I happened to check Albions site before Thanksgiving and noticed they've finally completed the prototype blade for the Maximilian/Tyrolean two-handers. I've had this one on order so long (years actually) I'd actually put it out of my mind so it was a bit of a surprise, but it's nice to see progress being made. (I suppose the wait does have some benefits as I'm locked in at a price significantly lower than the current one.) My order is number one on the Max list and I'll talk to Mike after it's completed as I'm interested in hearing about any heat treating challenges they'll encounter with a blade this long. I just got off the phone with Mike and being the consummate salesman that he is he declined to give me an estimate on completion. ;) However, I'm hoping to see it sometime within the next six months. That's just my personal hope so don't read anything official into it.

This will be the largest sword in my personal collection, and will also be the last sword for the foreseeable future. I'm not losing interest in the subject by any means but with the current state of our economy I feel the driving need to be smarter with my discretionary income. Of course my wife isn't helping in that area, I had informed her I'd have to choose something to sell in order to finance the Max and she "informed" me in no uncertain terms that wasn't going to happen. I try to be a grown-up but my understanding wife doesn't provide much help. :D Since this will be the last one for me for quite a while I suppose it's fitting that it be a big honkin' man-sword, 'cause I like big honkin' man-swords.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share a bit of my personal excitement.
Thanks for sharing that with us, Patrick. I can understand your excitement quite a little bit as I'm myself waiting for my custom sword made by Vladimir Cervenka (nearly completed). I'm also really curious to see how the Maximilian will look as I like big swords too. And I hope wou'll be able to buy more swords in a very near future ;)

Cheers,

David
Wow that sounds awesome. Actually, My Cervenka Pappenheimer is done, I should have it in a couple weeks or so.

I'm also happy becuase I also have the Maximillian on order, so the last 2 posts sound great!! I didn't see any updates to the albion website though. Mike Said the Dane was probably going to be the first 2-hander the last we spoke. I have that on order as well. either way I can;t wait to see the first Albion 2 handers!
It seems that a lot of Albion's updates have gone to Facebook. I haven't seen a post here about developments in a while (but then it's also been a while since they introduced a new model). You can see a preview of their Facebook page by actually clicking on the 'news room' header, so you can see the news even if you don't have a Facebook account.

On topic: I can't wait for the Albion two-handers to come out either; they look really cool! The picture of Peter and Harlan both holding the blade really gives you a sense of just how big these swords are going to be.
I guess both congratulations and condolences are in order then Patrick. I am going to have to find the pictures of this sword now. While of a later period then my area of interest there is just something about big swords like the Maximilian and Tyrolean that I really like. I think you really summed it up in your post though, I also really like big honkin' man-swords!

Addison,
That is good to know since I am not on Facebook. I am going to check it out after I am done with this post.

My late 18th century hanger. Probably English,(at least the hilt.) It is rather blade heavy for a hanger but I love it! Its sort of like a mini-Hussar saber in the hand. Steel guard, silver ribbon around the ebony grip, 30 and a half inch blade.

Would you post some pics and your thoughts on this sword? I think I want him to make the same sword for me and I'd certainly appreciate your thoughts on it.
My last sword was the Albion Kingmaker, I got it for my wedding.

Congratulations on not only getting a fine sword but also for getting married. May you have a long and happy marriage, and be able to buy many more swords as well!
Here is my newest sword - Oakeshott Type XII (actually mine is the upper one, with the longer guard; the other one is made for a friend of mine)

Both are based on the graphic drawings of the Type XII in Oakeshott's books. The tips are rounded, because the swords will be used in reenactment events

My most recent *real* sword is an Armour Class Early Basket (I also got a cheap monosteel Chinese katana as a basher/experiment but I don't really count that as a sword. It is junk but will serve its purpose). AC does really great work! The sword feels really good in hand. The hilt is a little large for me but it is still very nice. I'll try to get some photos when I have a chance :)
Although I've had this sword in my collection for a while now, I just never seemed to find the time to post photos. It is a reproduction of an 18th century hunting hanger. The sword was made by Kyle Willyard of Old Dominion Forge. Kyle did a wonderful job with great attention to detial, right down to the European red deer antler grip. There is something about the simple elegance of this hilt that has made it one of my favorite swords.

Chris
