Jarid?
Hoooo boy. In this era of the information age, there's not much that Google Image Search can't find, but when it comes to jarid, it's like sand running through my fingers.

For those who --like myself-- are not so familiar with weaponary from the near east, the Jarid is Turkish weapon, a short, all-steel javelin with a broad short blade, usually a counterweight, and occasionally leather fletchings. It was used by lighter-armed troops (cavalry?) to attack those more heavily armed/armored, and apparently (this part confuses me) they are/were often either confused with or used interchangably with roman pilum. It apparently bears noticable similarities with the Moorish Assagai.

This is virtually the extent of my knowledge. And so I ask you gurus out there: Enlighten me! For heaven's sakes, I didn't even know the Assagai wasn't just another name for the Iklwa!
Raid your literature please! I'd love to see pictures. :D
