Thanks for the further clarification, Nathan. Patrick described the GBS as a good all-purpose sword (cut-and-thrust, half-swording, etc.), but he also talked specifically about doing a lot of cutting with it, so I figure it's no slouch in the cutting department. That's not to say that you suggested anything to the contrary, it's just that my impression was that the GBS would be more of a cutter and less of a thruster. I guess I hadn't quite grasped just how capable the GBS is all around. I was fooled by the specs, in that I assumed that the Durer's lighter weight would make it more maneuverable than the GBS. And yes, my references to the weight, sleekness and finesse of the Durer were made soley in comparison to the GBS.

After mulling over which sword would be more first sword for nearly 2 years, the GBS was my very first sword which I got in July. My first sword had to reflect my spirit, who and what I was, so it was sacred to me. It also ignited my newfound passion, swords, medieval weaponry and armor, though I cannot afford armor.
So many fine swords to buy and not enough money, but I am grateful for what I have.
