Isn't that kettle-hat with the twisted top (the original, not the reproduction) in the Metropolitan Museum in New York?

You mean this one; http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/bnpu/ho_04.3.228.htm?
No I don't think that is the one, it may be though - anyway it is very similar to the Dutch one. The fluted/twisted top must have taken some time and skill to make. It is a very beautiful helmet.
Here is another picture of a kettlehat/early morion http://www.arador.com/gallery/friend13.jpg, from The Cleveland Museum of Art, dated 1400-1468(?!). I guess that explains what the holes in the brim of the kettlehat in Hisham's first post in this thread is there for.

This is one of my all-time favorite helms. I have a photo if it positioned with a bevor but I don't know which book it is in. |
There's such a photo in Osprey Publishing's "The Swiss at War 1300-1500" (Men-At-Arms 94), page 32 to exact.

That's really a beautiful piece, at least the original one. The replicas are missing some details.
It almost looks like a mixture of a morion and a kettle hat. A very useful design, that is
Good protection from blows/arrows from the side and above. When someone is trying to strike your face, you just do the turtle

Arms and Armour of the Medieval Knight (by David Edge) and also The Armourer and his Craft (Charles Ffoukes) both refer to this type of bevor (specifically made for a chapel de fer) as a BARBOTE (note the O!). Apparently they were very popular in Spain.
I do plan to make one to match my wifes kettle hat when I get a chance.
(number 1004 on the list of things to make or do!
