High middle ages helm - armourer recommendation?
Hello,

A while ago myArmoury member Daniel Staberg posted a picture which showed a helmet I was quite taken with. It is the one the knight is wearing on the far left, a sort of cross between a bascinet and a great helm. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but I can't find a production armourer who makes anything like that. Any suggestions as to who could do a good job with that design? I've already emailed A&A, Valentine, and BestArmour.

Thanks

This is sugarloaf helm :)
Jeff, did you see this http://www.myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=6440? Not exactly the same, but in the same "spirit". :)
It is a hinged sugarloaf.

Beathan and Armour and Castings does something similiar HERE but not exactly the same. However, Beathan also does beautiful custom helms and armour for about the same price so shoot him an email and I am sure that they can make one to your specifications.
I've heard little about the quality of the smith, but this helmet seems pretty close and the price seems very reasonable (although no doubt shipping costs will do away with that :\ )

Thanks for the replies guys. More recommendations are certainly welcome.
What time period do these fit in? From the armour I'm guessing 1275 to 1350? Can anyone be more specific?
I would really recommend Patrick Thaden. I recently received a sallet from him and am truly happy with how it turned out. Fits perfectly, looks great, super light (spring steel). Also he recently finished up a piece similar to what you are looking for. It can be viewed on the Armour Archive forum. He has done several threads showing a piece's construction from beginning to end. There are links to both his site and AA forum in the links section here.

Yep, that time period is right on.
Has anyone dealt with http://www.outfit4events.com?
I just got a bascinet from Patrick Thaden http://www.thadenarmory.com/. Review coming here soon.

I know he's working a nice visored sugarloaf right now, so he certainly knows the style.

If you need a really high-end piece, he's your man.
Maybe you should contact Francois L'Archeveque. He is a talented armourer and he is specialized in helm. With that image he will be able to find where it comes from, find where to find an original one or something really similar and make an acurate reproduction. And he is really not that expensive.
his email ; franklemalade@hotmail.com
If you look down in that forum there is a message regarding a swiss basilard if you go there you'll find a gallery of a little part of his work.
