Bump. More photos available upon request. :)
I decided I need a better description and more photos, so here you go:
For sale is a unique British officer's sword circa 1760-1780. The hilt is a steel three-quarter branching basket with open heart-shaped stool--a type IVBC according to Mazansky ("British Basket-Hilted Swords", 2005). The branches or of a flattened cross-section. The pommel is olive-shaped and would be considered a Mazansky type X pommel. The grip has a rectangular cross-section and features a wire bound wood core with some loss to whatever organic material was once beneath the wire. For a similar hilt, see IVBC1 on p.215 of Mazansky.
The colichemarde blade has a triangular hollow-ground cross-section with a fuller on one side. There are traces of etched gorgons heads and grotesque faces. There is some pitting to the blade and a knick just above the ricasso.
This sword is a unique combination of a military hilt and a more civilian-style blade (the colichemarde is a common small-sword blade form).
Blade: 29” Overall: 35” Weight: 1 lb. 10 oz.
I will also consider trades or partial trades for researchable British military swords (Victorian preferred, but Edwardian and WWI are nice, too). In particular I am interested in swords ID’d to officers who served in the Indian Army and/or officers who served in the Second Anglo-Afghan War or any of the other campaigns and expeditions on the North-West Frontier.
Still available! :) Please send me a PM if you are interested in this sword.
Shipping will now be included in the price ($1450 USD) for UK buyers!
This sword will be moving to eBay on Sunday. Buy now to avoid disappointment! :D
One and only price drop before I move the sword to eBay tonight:
$1400 shipped CONUS.
