I googled "boiled linseed oil" and it seems that it would also work as a rust deterrant for the blade, could you confirm this? Or should I use sowing-machine oil, Reneissance Wax or something like that instead?

Well, linseed oil may have been used historically on swords or armour to prevent rust but when it dries it does produce a film on the blade that might look " messy " if partially rubbed off or scratched.

Basically linseed oil is a base for oil paints but dries sort of clear if no colour pigments are in the oil. ( Yellows with time or Sun exposure ).

Gun oil is a better solution and some modern oils leave a dry protective film.

Silicon wiping cloths are also uses for rust protection on firearms.

Renaissance wax is a good, safe and stable protective coating that is used and was developed by museums as a product that wouldn't harm fragile surfaces of almost any antique object while not changing the colour, be acidy/corrosive and easily removed with the right solvent without damaging the object.

Oh, you might do a search on the Forums here as there where some other Topics dealing with rust protection that should cover a lot of this already. ;) :D
