The same rental company that had us make the first pair just asked for a rush job for a wedding. We had to make these a bit simple to keep cost down and because they will be rented for stage use and had to be sturdy. The customer asked for these to be a bit different from the first pair and he wanted the blade lengths to be shorter for better use on a small stage. He wanted more of an Indian calvery sword then a Tulwar. We also had to keep the cost down becuase he only had $400 a sword to spend.

Here is the picture we were asked to work from.

This is what we came up with in a day...

After watching Tony Swatton do small fullers on the edge of a sander I decided to try that out on these blades. I think they came out pretty good and after a bit more practice I think I will add little fullers like these on many of our future curved blades.

One of these days I want to make some 100% historically correct Tulwar ,but for now these were certainly fun to make.

If you ever need to rent Tulwar for stage use check out http://www.preferredarms.com/ They have a ton of our swords and they always seem to come up with something crazy for us to make. Ask for Rob Hunter.

That's interesting, I was just photographing a firangi in my collection along very similar lines, if you'd like a clearer idea of how the originals are put together:

This one is 44" OAL, with a 36" blade (from the upper guard, including the clamped section) and weighs about 2.25 lb.

Man you rock. It was so hard finding pictures of the hilts. We were close on the shape of the plate. For the price we couldnt even think about adding the pieces down the blade, but man I would love to do one exactly like that one. Thanks a ton for posting that.
