Johan, I am actually already working on that. There is a guy that is local to me that has quite a collection of original wood working axes. He has been on me for a while to repro some that you just cant buy anywhere else. Seems like a good winter project.

Yeah, a good quality adze and maybe a draw knife would be something I would also like at some point since I do a little wood working making very stout sculpted walking sticks and walking staffs, mostly just for the fun of it, and an adze is really useful considering how hard and though some of the exotic woods I want to use are like Jatoba that is twice as hard as White Oak and very heavy.

So yes I think there should be a market for these and maybe carpenter's axes of various kinds scaled to close detail work rather than scaled to make log houses.
Matthew: Oh, Ryan at Kult of Athena wrote back that his going to look into my suggestion to him about the Bardiche, although I'm sure he might also be interested in other axe or polearms heads only and/or fully mounted.

By the way Ryan had nice things to say about the quality of your work and his opinion has a great deal of weight for me. :D

I can't say enough of Ryan and the staff at KOA. Super guys that know how to run a buisness and they know the sword market just as good as anyone else if not better.

You are correct, your request was taken seriously and I got and email this morning from Ryan asking to stock more of our axe line. This will only generate more momentum in getting some more deisgns worked out and released.

I am excited and not ashamed to admit it! I love pole weapons. They were my first job at BKS and still hold a dear place in my heart.
I'm also interested in the idea of being able to buy some of these through K of A. Hope it moves soon.

regards,

Michael
Matthew I was at my speciality lumber yard today where I buy exotic woods to make some walking sticks or walking staff to buy a wood burning kit and an adze ( Couldn't wait. ;) ) and a draw knife sort of thing. Might be called something else, it has two rosewood handles one on each side and a very solid brass tool holder. Seems like using a plane but by pulling rather than pushing ).

Anyway, while I was there I saw some very long 8' or more White Oak poles of 1 3/4 " diameter and I think these would have potential for extra stout polearm hafts. ;) :D

One could use them as is or taper them in interesting ways as well as good materials for whittling down into walking sticks with integral heads.

Well, just interesting as far as making the eye of the Bardiche even larger although 1 3/4" might be too much or not needed, these wide diameter poles could be tapered to work well with 1 1/2" or the standard large 1 1/4" sockets.

Just thought that this would be interesting information that very thick poles seem to be available out there. I think these are used for making railing or safety bars on stair cases or other similar uses.[/i]
I will keep that in mind. Right now we stock 36" hickory poles but not much longer then that. We have a guy we have done buisness with over the years that can turn us whatever we need, but we havent gone that route in awhile.

KOA has requested poles with all the axes so we are looking around at what options will be best for the longer poled items.

I have been doing some neat spiral fluted poles on some pole arms lately that I am falling in love with. Might become an official option with KOA. Not sure. I will have pics of some custom mounted tridents in the next few days.
Consider another vote towards your making wood-working tools placed, Matt. It's almost impossible to find a quality adze for a good price. I look forward to seeing the selection of your axes at KoA soon!
I just added a few new designs to the site. http://imakeswords.com/axes.htm

That death dealer axe is pretty badass. Well done!

This would be the base model of this pattern. Some upgrades coming soon...

I am adding a Gallóglach to the list of historical presentations I do, just found a "must have" for the kit!

Oh yeah, maybe a new version Sparth Ax? No one really makes them anymore.
liking the danish axe i.e the last one , it seems alittle squat, is that a one or 2 handed version?

and the double bitted axe... how much does the whole ensemble weigh? and is that a woodworking axe or a waraxe?

im curious how itd handle compared to the galloglaich axe.

A&A will make you a fine one; I dunno why it still isn't on the web page. See page 22 of the 'print' catalog:

http://www.arms-n-armor.com/catalog.html

I have two of them – one of which stays shiny and pristine, and the other that I've used to demolish 2-liter bottles and plywood test targets... :D

Sorry for the sidetrack, Matthew. The Gallowglass axe looks great, and indeed unique on the production market, I think.
Yea, Joe I do feel that your post was in poor taste. Esp when quality forums, such as this one, have private massaging systems for just that purpose.

Nothing fuels my fire more then a little friendly competition soooo how about this Sparth? Is that what you all were thinking? Or did you mean more of the bardiche looking sparth?

I like that one a lot. Almost like it has a fat thrusting point on it.
I love the shape of this one! One can see influence of its ancestor, the Petersen type M dane axe, in it.

Hi Matthew,

That was EXACTLY what I was thinking. It is damned hard enough to find proper kit for early Scots personas, and that one will work beautifully.

Now, I just need to sell a kidney to pick one up.

Really like the look of this one Matt... VERY cool. Feel free to send me one for my birthday. :)
Sure, no problem Sean. I think I have your wifes credit card info on file somewhere ;) Thanks for the love.

I agree -- especially since I was linking to a bardiche-style sparth, and had forgotten you posted a bardiche earlier in this thread! I am sorry about that..

It's great to see that Scots/Highland style of axe -- that's the best production rendition of this type I have seen, and I don't think anyone else is making one at the moment.
