I wouldn't assume that the mounting are not steel because of being non-magnetic as the 300 series stainless steels are real steels but definately non-magnetic.

So the fittings could be stainless steel or they could be some other kind of alloy, but if the mounting seem strong and not brittle they are probably not of the really low quality " Pot Metal " zinc alloys used on cheap wallhangers and film swords.

A nice looking sword..I'm very tempted. Does anyone know if the other Hanwei Viking style swords ( the Godfred and the Trondheim) they list as having pattern welded blades use the same blade stock as the Saxon ? I know the blades are slightly different lengths..but I was wondering if they are made from the same stock and have the same, or similar tangs ??
Trondheim and Godfred are much older models and are not even close in historical accuracy and quality to Saxon... I had the Godfred once but I returned it to the shop because of cracks on the blade...

Hi Ralph...

The only other Hanwei sword I have seen with a torsion patternwelded blade is the pattern welded William Marshal sword. However it has a different look than the saxon sword and a different pattern. It also does not have welded on edges. I think they might use some form of powdered steel. Not sure I understand the process though. I have attached a pic of the blade.

take care
