Congrats indeed! I'll be watching this contest closely and I am looking forward to see what you guys will come up with.

Best of luck to you all!

Welp, congratz to the winners, may you make cool stuff now.
Congratulations to the winners! I can't wait to see the results of your work. :)

The 5 winners of this stage should email me and choose one of the blade types from my kit page http://www.todsstuff.co.uk/theenglishcutler/k...knives.htm I will try to supply a blade as close to their prefference as possible. They can also choose from wood scales (name type), bone or light or dark horn. Wood will be easier to use. The wood available is box, blackthorn, holly, lace wood, elm, ash, pear, walnut

They can also specify, copper, brass or steel rivet material and whether they want any other bits of material for bolsters etc.

This level of customisation is not generally available for the kits, but this is a special occassion!

Tod

Just curious, but would this level of customisation be available for the people who didn't win but wish to do the unoffical contest afterwards?

For the moment -yes.

I now have all the requirements in fom the contestants and will send the kits out tomorrow.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing the results.

Tod
Received my kit today...downloaded the instructions...wish me luck!
Well the progress report so far is that all has been very quiet on the email questions front so I assume that everyone is getting one fine with the one exception entrant who has had to drop out due to other commitments; so it is down to four.

Tim Eagling has started a blog so there may be some progress pictures in due course http://timmysconflictinginterests.blogspot.co...oject.html

There is about 12-14 days left to run before we get to see whats what.

Tod
I'm still figuring mine out. But, I hope to have it done by the end of the weekend.
I'm not in the contest  but I finished my knife yesterday. Great kit, great instructions and great fun! Hope to start the scabbard/sheath next week. Won't post here until after the end of the contest, if at all.
I was hoping to have some in progress pictures to post up to whet our appetites, but none so far.

I have however asked if everyone can be ready to send me pictures of their finished pieces next Monday, so they have the weekend and then we will see..........

I am looking forward to this.

Regards

Tod

Neat!

Looking forward to see what the competition comes up with.

Excellent!

I was feeling a little down tonight having totally failed to stop a kitchen tap leaking - now having seen what you can make from what, to me, seems like a collection of scraps and unidentifiable bits of wood, I feel totally despondent. I could not do that in a million years.

It must be very satisfying to be so creative!

You CAN, Neil!!!! I, for one, have much more success with arms and armour than I do with plumbing.

Thanks Sean! Now I am not soaked and annoyed at having avoided paying a plumber I am feeling much more optimistic I must admit :) . Between Tod's work, this competition and your own creative output I feel rather inspired to have a go at a Ballock dagger kit actually (it looks slightly less fiddly maybe?)

I would also like to make it clear I intended no slight on Tod's kits - they look like a fine set of components and each of the knife blades has a real character of its own. Seeing raw material transformed into little works of art is always a bit magical to me.

I am eager to see all the final entries in the competition - good luck to all!

Neil.
Mine is nearly completed - here are "in progress" pics:

Sorry, that its on FB - uploaded from my phone.
I know that I won't win - but I had a great time working on this project!

Here are the pictures that I sent to Tod:

Seconded. Did you glue (epoxy) the bolster rather than solder them prior to riveting? I'm sure it works just as well.
