Found these pictures on a different forum, they are taken in the Army museum in Brussel. The cannon's look very similar to the one i have. Unfortunately it does not mention the size. Think i will try to build a mount for it from an old oak beam, like in the picture.

Yep, very similar to yours.

I wouldn't use old oak, get use nice air dried oak or even green and unseasoned. That way you will not have a 'faked' bed to put it on and you'll actually be able to work it. Old oak will be like granite at the thickness you'll need. But make sure your barrel is conserved and protected, the oak will react strongly with the iron. If it was me I'd be considering a softwood that's been painted or even acrylic as I'd want to focus on the item, not the mounting. But thats just me. Best of luck, let usd know how you get on.

Thanks for the advice Griff!

I will post some pictures when it's ready. First i have to figure out what needs to be done to preserve it. Not quite clear what kind of treatment it received when it was found. I called the previous owner to find out more, but he apparantly bought it on a local flew market some 40 years ago and than stored it in his barn. Anyway, it's solid with no loose or fresh rust so i'm going to ask a specialist for some advice.
