I have never purchased from these three, but they are there.

So I decided to make an arming vest of sorts. I figured I would try myself in the meantime, still deciding on which site to order from. I've spent about $80 on two vests(Sewing one to the other to reinforce it) and sewing supplies(Leather-working tools, needles, etc.).

I will post pictures later on if anyone is interested. It's pretty rough looking, but it's fun. :)

Trying to decide between these two helmets, advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm mostly worried about the articulation that they would afford me. It appears there's very little side to side movement in either sallet, but the second one seems it would have greater vertical movement due to the riveted gorget. The overall circumference is worrying too. My head measures in at 59 cm and the interior of the helm is 61? Is that too tight of a fit?

I fully intend to spar with it, at full speed. So I know I'll have to get some padding in the helmet in addition to what they have in there already.

Here's a better view of this one. Its "Large" but doesn't have any dimensions. Its also a thicker gauge.

as I'm in the UK I'm not up with your scene so can't really comment on the helmets other than check with whatever group your are intending to spar with that these are ok and combat legal. Artistically/accuracy wise I'd say what i say to my staff, 'of course you can buy it, its your money. Just don't wear it to any of my events'.

The gauntlets however I'd never recommend. If its sca combat then go to one of the may suppliers who specialise in that market. look at The Armour Archive site, gauntlets whizz about on that like flies on a cow pat and you won't regret buying from there. If you got any of those you might as well have burnt your money. If its not SCA and more steel based sparring then even more so, buy to fit the purpose. Sadly that might not fit your purse but save up, you only need your fingers crushed once to regret not spending another $100 or so.

It is steel sparring, not with any particular group either. Hahah, on second thought I may hold off on the gauntlets. The milanese gauntlets by ulfberth looked somewhat sturdy. The others though... you're right, they seem to be lacking.

Just say that as finger injuries are pretty painful and extremely uncomfortable and even more inconvenient. Spend a day not using your thumb or an index finger. Guy I met a few months back had had two crushed so badly they had to come off. Admittedly that was Battle of the Nations, which gets hairy, but that was in very good gauntlets indeed, prob $800s worth.

Wow. Two fingers!? Crazy! I always thought battle of nations looked a little unsafe. I mean, are there safety regulations of any kind? Yea, I think I will skip these gauntlets.

Those patterns on ArmourArchive look really good, and the italian gauntlets actually look of very high quality. Looks relatively easy to make as well, if time consuming.
