Opinions on MLR's Towton
Thanks guys, I'll give it a try. I was under the impression that there was a decal on one side (easily dealt with) and that the logo was stamped and inked into the blade under all that laquer on the other side. Thought I might have to do some grinding.

No, no grinding! :D Mine came off pretty easily. The blade looks better without the lacquer anyway - all I need to do now is do a proper re-polish to a nice satin finish and I'll be very happy (until I find something else to play with on it!). :p

I recommend de-glossing the leather on the grip though (see above!) - it feels much better in the hand with and looks better with a nice matt finish too!

Bill,
On mine, there was an easily removed sticker on one side. The stamp on the other side does appear to be under the lacquer. Grinding is a bit more extreme than what's needed, though. A lacquer stripper and some steel wool or Scotchbrite should be enough.
The Windlass mark on my Towton was printed on top of the lacquer and came off in literally a second or two with a rag and a little lacquer thinner. I've been too lazy/busy to strip the lacquer off my Towton blade but I have noticed that it's soft enough to be scraped off with my fingernail in a few spots, so it shouldn't bee too tough to remove it.
