He does such amazing work... It's not even my era of interest and I'd still LOVE to have one of his swords... if only he would do more high medieval stuff...  It just isn't interesting enough to him darn the luck!

Who did the scabbard and can we get some more pictures of the detail on it?

I don't know about this one in particular but since every other piece I've seen of Mr. Evans also has his own scabbard work I would assume that he did this one as well. In addition to being a great swordsmith he makes outstanding scabbards.

Hi Joe
Vince did the scabbard ! (Vince makes all the scabbards & sheaths for his pieces!)
Not sure if he'll be releasing any other pics before the show, ?, but if he should I'll be sure and post them up !

Hi Joe
Vince did the scabbard ! (Vince makes all the scabbards & sheaths for his pieces!)

I was not sure.
I think I remember that Vince's wife helps with carving but I did not remember who did the scabbards.

I remembered that they did all the work in-house as a team, just didn't remember all the details of who did what.

Yes George, the grip and guard components are horn.
I'm sure one of the "regular" groupie vultures that hover around Vince's table will snap this up within seconds. Actually, it will probably be sold before the doors even open if the scenario holds true. It's great that Vince is in the position of having his work be in such demand, but it makes it nearly impossible for we mortal collectors to add his work to our personal stock. Oh the pain!

I like this feature quite a bit. You see a lot of wood used in modern interpretations of this period, even ivory on occasion. But you don't see horn very often. I like the effect.

Vince had mentioned that none of the usual suspects tend to be at this show, so ya never know .... ?
Although I think that handsome asian attorney will be on hand, so be quick on the draw folks if one is serious ;-)

Vince has added the following info to his site :
Styled after swords found in England. The 28" blade is a pattern weld of 4 bar herringbone with a random pattern edge. The hilt is horn and antiqued brass with silver accents and ring. The scabbard is leather over wood with antiqued brass mounts.Will be available at the Blade Show West in Portland, Oregon September 30 - October 2, 2005.

Ah so. The Migration Era Sword. I seem to remember Vince mentioning something about that.
Fear not gentleman. No Asian Vulture for this sword. I thought hard about it, but it is not something that "speaks to me," to borrow a term from Eddie Chan, who with these words walked away from the Chinese Oxtail Sabre from Vince's table and enabled me to snag that one in Vegas.
Besides, I'm starting to get REALLY tired of looking over my shoulders on a lookout for the Boyos. 
Stylistically it's a liiiittle too similar to my Type Z, so I will bow out from the competition.
BTW, I love the buffalo horn as grip material. Vince made my Turcael with buffalo horn grips, with wide spaced silver wire wrap. One of the very few of my suggestions (pleas) that was incorporated into the sword.
Let the feeding frenzy begin. I am not sure if I'll make the Blade Show West this time, though I am 99.99% definite for Vegas in January.

But.... I just bought a new car.... so, maybe not....

They can have use Bison or Wisent horn those days, here in Sweden was they gone around year 1000.
