I share your preference for single handed XIIs, but I couldn't claim to be gutted. They'll probably have made one by the time I get round to having the spare cash to throw at one. The single handed XVI that I referred to above would just be my favourite from what is currently on offer, but it is all an academic exercise for now.

yeah maybe gutted was a bit too strong but im a bit disapointed, but i agree the XVI was my fav out of the new range.
I was looking forward to the Type XII, but I guess that model got bumped back along with the Type XI -- oh well. Nevertheless, I was also looking forward to the XIIa, so I'll be reserving that one instead. Or maybe the XIIIa. Choices, choices.
Can't wait to see my NG Gaddhjalt!

Hey Brian!

We should have drawings up for the XI and XII up in the next week or so, along with a Xa. Don't despair!

Best,

Howy

really are they going to be available at the same time as the other new ones?
Will those be available roughly the same time as the rest - June?
Really sounds like you are covering all the bases! I will surely be reserving a XII, but it will also be interesting to see the Xa and XI. I might have to scrape together $600 to reserve two swords.

Okay, Howy, now you're just being mean! That XXa is , to a "T", what I've been looking for for the better part of a year!!! And now that I have no money......

::starts looking in the job listings:: I'll see about placing an order for this sometime next year then!

Take care!

I am sold on the Baron and the Duke... now to find the money. You only need one kidney to live right?
The XXa reminds me a little of something I've seen before.

Yep. Looks like this sword is based on an original Peter Johnsson documented.

Here's a custom sword Peter made that, at the very least, I'm sure served as stylistic inspiration for the hilt:

I'd not say they're the same sword, as the blades look a bit different proportionately. But certainly the relationship of hilt details can be seen. Very nice!!

Yes, Nathan!
Thanks, I knew you would recognize the sword... :D
There are actually two swords that are used in combination for this design. The Sword in your post was inspired from the same combination of swords, but the XXa is designed with a different twist. The one you saw was much closer in blade dimension to the original in the Royal Armouries in Leeds, but hollowground and thus quite a bit lighter. The XXa will be diamond sectioned in the blade beyond the ricasso, like the 15th original, but instead broader and more massive.
The hilts on both the one on your photo and the XXa are inspired by the same original: It is a war sword in the Landesmuseum in Zürich (Oakeshott shows a drawing of this one in his "Sword in the Age of Chivalry" on page 108). None of the versions is a direct copy though, but both are heavily influenced by the original sword. To me it is a very striking combination with this cross and this style of pommel
On the whole the XXa will be a much more massive sword than the one you handeled in New Glarus. They will be similar to each other in visual style, but two completely different swords in handling, performance and intended use.

And now the Norman takes over as my favourite. Lovely stuff!
Peter,

I distinctly remember discussing the sword in Nathans photo.

I remember commenting to you that it would be a great sword if it were built up to hand-and-a-half proportions. A proper "Man sword"!

Well there you go........................ :D

Howy

I remember our talk too :D
I have wanted to make a hand and a half version of this combination for quite a while now. Thought I would be makig a one of a kind handforged sword. Now it will be a sword designed for Albion production. I still get to spend time carving the hilt originals. That is almost as fun as forging, filing and polishing... ;)

*Looove!!!*

Now, with down-bent, slightly spatulate cross-ends (you know what I mean, Peter), it would be just perfect for me!
Yeah Lee, that doesn't look too bad ;)
