I have perused this form as well as swordforum, i have found many threads on re - hilting but they are all showing finite results, while they don't give substantial explanations on how to re - wrap a medieval european sword's hilt.

I'm tryng to make more presentable my Paul Chen practical knightly sword, I would like to re - wrap it with natural or ox - blood color leather, while I would like to put a cord wrapping under the leather.

Mostly important, I do not know how to treat the leather in order to glue it so as to make it as adherent to the lower cord wrapping as one sees in the pics of the home - made improvements on swordforum : also I do not know how to avoid or minimize the point of junction of the leather surface.

Since my pommel is peened I will not disassemble my hilt, so I will need to cut the fake leather wrapping now existing.

I wonder if I could use simple masonry type vinyl glue and commercial packet cord ...

Bruno,
There's some information on re-wrapping grips in Sean's article here: http://www.myArmoury.com/feature_antique.html

This thread also talks about it: http://www.myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=3808

Hopefully they'll answer a few questions.

Happy

i have found that the traditional, ubiquitous italan cord, the so called spago, is made of hemp: I have already re - wrapped a dummy sword with it, next i will proceed to cover it with skin.

We will see, anyway the spago has been rediscoverd by me under a more noble light !
