Okay, I'll play.

This one is a "Turcael" by Vince Evans...or just "Turk" for short. Truth be told, this one should be called "The Little Turk."

Close up of the basket...

Now all we need is for Ron Luciano to put up the pic of his "Big Turk."

Hi everyone,
Fun thread! Lots of baskets! Now I don't mean to get this thread sidetracked into antiques or anything, but did you all notice what's unusual about the S-basket with the Harvey blade that Stephen posted? No? Here it is: the S hilt members are mounted reversed compared to other S hilts pictured (and this is the first antique I've seen with this orientation of the S). I thought I was the only one that did that, but here we have proof that at least one hiltmaker back in the 1700s mounted his S's this way, too.

I have to say I like Ron's Turcael the most. The I love the double fullered blade. But I would be extremely happy to own either of them.

Hi Stephen

Yes, the original ( see here in Ron's lucky hands, at The Museum of Scotland :-) has such a 'wicked' looking blade !
It had to have made an enemy think twice !

Vince did an incredible job on his version , I luv it ! Mac

41. Rare Scottish Regimental Officer's broad sword with 'S' bar hilt. Blade is 30 1/4" long and 1 5/8" at hilt. Small piece missing on right side of basket. Used at the Battle of Waterloo, 1815. Similar to the one in the West Highland Museum, Fort William.
Circa 1800

Thanks for posting those pictures of the Turcael Mac and Steve. Those pictures are of me about 45 pounds ago. Here is one I took last weekend.

Best regards,
Ron

Yep. It's a nice one. I've got a couple of S-hilts I forgot about.

S-Hilt by Erik Stevenson of Phoenix Metal Creations
(in the collection of David White)

I believe Erik took these were pictures & Nathan posted them on SFI for David.

The blade length is 31" long; 29 5/8" beveled section, 1 3/8" ricasso
Hilt is 5 1/4" long and about 4 1/2" wide
Weight is 2.9 pounds
PoB is 3 3/4" from the cross
CoP is 20 1/2" from the cross

Hi Ron,

It's looks great. Erik will be making me a smallsword this year. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm always very impressed by his work. Who made the blade on your basket-hilt?

regards,
Stephen
