Well I just rounded out the donations to the $500 I WIN ........ Well, maybe it's easy because I may be the only competitor. Razz Laughing Out Loud

To quote myself for those who won't go back to the previous page of posts:
Quote:
Well made my first donation to keep this ball rolling along and might/probably make small and repeated contribution to keep the amount donated rounded out to nice multiples of hundreds of dollars i.e. when we hit something like $990 and are stuck there for a while I will probably just " goose " the amount again and " bump " the Topic back to the top

Maybe some people will want to beat me to it. In that case I will have to wait for the next time the amount is close to a round number. ( Call it appealing to the competitive nature of participants: Maybe Nathan can have a competition this year for the five biggest amounts donated in total and one for the most number of repeat contributions ? ( Well, with a minimal amount of $10 so that people don't start donating in pennies. ). .

You guys make it easier when the amount gets to within $10 to $20 of a round number .......so keep contributing.

( Disclaimer and fine print: I don't promise to do this every time and at some point my total contributions will reach my limit of close to what I gave last year. Wink I will also do some " cheep "contribution free bumps " to the Topic ).

Oh, Thom R.has a fun and creative idea to also raise fun for the site on this Topic:
http://www.myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=13649

Nice T-Shirt and I was tempted to take him up on it but I would rather that it " motivates " someone else to contribute as I contributed already and plan to do it again at least a few times more.

Well, up to $600 so thanks to " Anonymous " Cool

The economy sort of " suck " at the moment so contributing might not be as easy and painless as it was a year ago, but a contribution need not be very high: $10 from enough people will do it and even $5 would be useful. ( Don't know if even smaller amounts might be useful if Paypal charges are being deducted from contributions ? If it's a fixed percentage I guess even $1 would be useful if a thousand people contributed. If there is a minimum amount going to Paypal for every contribution there may be a point where contributions become too small to cover the deducted amount ? Maybe Nathan could let us know ?).

Also, a $10 contribution is like the cost of going to a movie or a breakfast at a fast food place, two capuchinos etc .... and unless one is in desperate shape financially it won't affect one's bottom line in a perceivable way over a year. Wink Cool

So, if you are just an occasional reader of the site I can understand not contributing since I read many other sites without feeling the need to contribute, but then I don't really spend very much time there or post.

For those who get a lot of enjoyment from this site and come here almost daily or even multiple times daily you are still completely free to not contribute, and are welcome, but it's in your and our interest if you can help keep the site going.

Much of this has been said before since this multipage Topic has been used for last year's fund drive : The first post is actually almost two years old, so saying something " Original " is not easy. Wink Laughing Out Loud I also assume that people are generally not going to read all 6 pages of posts ! Eek! So forgive my repeating my " sales " pitches " AGAIN. Wink Cool

PayPal's fees are posted on their website, linked at the bottom of every page (https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside). For most donations, Nathan would lose 2.9% plus $0.30. So a dollar would net 67 cents.

So it would seem that even a dollar contribution would help but be somewhat inefficient doing it !

Maybe $2 to $5 could be the bottom range for useful contributions: Again if it's between contributing $5 or nothing giving $5 would be appreciated. Big Grin Some people may feel uncomfortable just giving $5 but then it can be done anonymously but there really should be no problem giving small amounts and if it motivates others to do the same it does add up.

Obviously a few large amount contributors are also welcome. Cool

A " Bump " and a little rounding up to $750. Wink Big Grin

The many " Vendors " who get regular mention here, for various reasons, like satisfied customers giving them the occasional " Free Plug " you might consider a small contribution as the discussions here often motivate me and others to buy something. Wink

So keeping this site functioning is helping your businesses get known and generate sales: So look at it as a little money well spent.

Good marketing and good P.R. also, as well as useful feedback about customer service and including suggestions for product improvements that some of the " smarter " makers have actually applied.

YES: It's working ....... Wink Eek! Laughing Out Loud

Almost did a little more " Bump & Rounding " ( Sounds vaguely " obscene said that way. Eek! Wink )

Wanted to " tempt " others to do a little rounding so when it was at $888 ( If I remember correctly ) I decide to wait for another opportunity to round up. Big Grin

Anyway, just a " Bump " this time.

( NOTE: BUMP & ROUNDING or B&R is now the official abbreviation ).

A B&R to halfway. At this rate maybe we can make $1300 a third of the way?
'I saw young Harry, -with his bevor on,
His cuisses on his thighs, gallantly arm'd,-
Rise from the ground like feather'd Mercury,
And vaulted with such ease into his seat,
As if an angel dropp'd down from the clouds,
To turn and wind a fiery Pegasus,
And witch the world with noble horsemanship.'

Nice little " spurt " of contributions there but things have stalled a bit so time for a little cheap " Bump " without an " R ": Not close enough to the next round number yet, and I can't do it all by myself unless I won a lottery or something.

Oh, if anyone does win a lottery maybe they can round things out " A LOT " or pay for multiple years of hosting in advance. Razz Laughing Out Loud

Again, nothing wrong with small contributions like $5 to $10. Wink just to keep things rolling along .........................

Oh, a little movement again and up to $1345: Thanks and .......... " BUMP ".

Nice big jumps are nice but a lot of small contribution dribbling in also help. Big Grin

Oh, whether you are making a contribution or not don't be shy to bump up the Topic and add some comments: Motivational and humorous. Wink Laughing Out Loud I try to be entertaining with these bumps and not " nag or try to guilt you guys " into giving.
So, anything funny to motivate by others than me would be fun. ( No guilting or nagging please as I'm sure that Nathan doesn't want stuff here that is arms-twisting ! ( A little nudge maybe. Big Grin ).

I'm not sure why I showed up 3 successive times on the donors' list, since I only contributed once.

Interesting ! Double or triple posting just in the donors' list ? Is the total of your contribution 1/3 of what is stated or is the total of the 3 contributions equal to your actual contribution ? ( If you paid with Paypal you should check the totals for an error at the Paypal end ? ).

Ex: did you contribute $10 and the donors' list is saying $10+$10+$10= A false total of $30.

Or did you contribute $30 and it got spilt up into 3 contributions of $10 ???( Oh, only using $10 for the example ).

Anyway I'm curious: I notice 3 contributions in a row within minutes or seconds from each other ???

I'm guessing there was some kind of error. At one point I thought we were up to $1320. Now we're at $1255.

Exactly, and how much would you be " upset " if the site was no longer available because Nathan couldn't afford to keep the place going year after year using only his own funds ! Eek!

Think of the price of a fast food meal, a taxi ride, a night out at the movie, a paperback book etc ......... anything from $5 to $25 you might spend without even thinking about it twice ! So, if reading or participating on this site gives you as much enjoyment as one of these things just sacrifice one of those this week and you won't notice it. Wink Big Grin
