The Origin of the Plug Bayonet
I was curious if anyone knows about or has any information on the earliest plug bayonets.

From the book The Plug Bayonet by R.D.C. Evans there is a passage that reads: "Some doubt the remains as to its origins, but the available evidence suggests that it first appeared about 1550-1580 in the area around the Pyrenean mountain range which today still forms the border between France and Spain. The Basque people of that region were probably responsible for its introduction."

I was wondering if their are any plug bayonets that predate the 17th century, and are from either France or Spain? The oldest plug bayonet that is in the book dates back to 1603.
