I actually got trained on a Kubatan once. Close in it is better than fists, but I would rather have a knife. ;-)

Einar, I remember seeing several sets of brass knuckles back in the 1950s when i was a kid and they were the ones upon which I was basing my comments. None of them had that extension down into the palm, they were just over the knuckles.
