The inlayed silver on the English basket hilt is a very nice detail. I've only seen pictures of a few other baskets with this feature, but not quite like that one. Did you get to see how the front bar (main knuckle guard) was decorated?

Looks to me like the inlay is limited to the pommel and bottom of the basket (the top as oriented in the attached photo).

Interesting, the basic similarity between figure-eight cutlass hilts and proto-mortuary sword hilts. Basic, simple means of providing plenty of protection from a sheet-iron guard, I guess, but it would be interesting to know if there is any deeper connection, other than just being from the same general area, though somewhat different times.
