This book is written in Italian. Because of this, I cannot comment on any of Mr. Malipiero's writing - and, therefore won't rate or recommend/not recommend it - but that's not why I purchased this book. To me, what is of value - and significant value - is the full-color facsimile of the Getty version of Fiore's Fior di Battaglia. I would have preferred a ...

Continuing in the Liechtenauer tradition, Kal's work is quite important to the scholar of the 15th Century combat systems. This large (and it is large - coffee-table large) volume contains very clear, colorful reproductions of the plates from the treatise. As with Mr. Tobler's other works, the plates are referenced by folio and plate for easy identification ...

Very thorough and well-organized. The elements are presented clearly, with good discussion of the quibbles and controversies surrounding them is included. WAY beyond high school geometry, and, by necessity, not using modern mathematics, this is for serious study, not light reading. Since geometry was so ingrained into medieval life, art, music, ...

This text-only volume provides an accessable reference into the mind of one of history's most brilliant minds. Combine this with Da Vinci's complete works (which is also in my list), and you have a good resource.

As a collection of plates, perhaps interesting. As a reference and study guide for a serious WMA practitioner, marginal to useless in my opinion.

This book is a collection of works of art exploring the symbols surrounding alchemy. Although there are descriptions in the margins of many of the pieces included, this isn't a book to be read - the text isn't there. Still, though, there is a wide variety of fascinating art for art's sake, and does make a nice additional resource for someone pursuing ...

Well-organized with crisp, clear prints, this book makes an interesting coffee-table book for occasional perusal, or (especially combined with his complete notebooks) a good reference and source for more serious study. Barnes and Noble has a hardbound reprint of this book for roughly $25 - a rediculous deal at that price.

Although far, far from comprehensive of Durer's works, this is a nice collection of many of his more well-known paintings. Very affordable, with clean, crisp prints.

The Divine Proportion, Phi, The Golden Cut, The Golden Mean, The Golden Section... 1.618 : 1. Integral in nature, ancient/medieval/renaissance art, music, architecture. This is a fun book, not overburdening with math, that gives a good understanding of where and how this ratio shows up.
