Alexi;

Well, I was trying to be logical without being wrong ........... Wink, Wink!

Gordon;

The specifications to that Albion German Bastard sword hasn't been published yet, but from the other at the same scale something around 35" to 38" is likely.

Now, a shorter handle with a slightly heavier pommel might just give you what you are looking for.

I wonder if Albion would consider doing modifications on one of their standard patterns ? ( At a price of course.)

Might be able to convince them to modify a blade that they couldn't sell anyway because of some flaw or error during polishing or something. (A flaw that would force the shortening of the tang would be the best I guess, so I guess you would have to hope that someone screws-up in just the right way.)

Or if they would sell components to be used for a custom project ? ( Might not want to for liability reasons ?)

Or even better one of their future sword will match what you want.

Jean;

Good ideas. I rather like the idea of a "Bastardized Bastard Sword", LOL!

I've been also checking out the ATrim 1428... decently long and not overly beefy at 38 5/8ths" long, and with the cross guard only 3 pounds... put a good Renaissance hilt on it after shortening the tang some and adding a good sized pommel and "Viola!" Since Trim and/or his vendors sell just the blades, this may well be the road I take, and fit a custom hilt to it. I could probably con Steve Moffatt into it if I didn't mind sitting on him for a while, LOL!

Alexi, you and Sean are such evil men! Evil You fellows have "Forced" me into a rash decision, that being to acquire an A&A Dresden Rapier! EEEK! Surprised

Nathan has a good, if short, review of the one in his collection here:

I'm reluctant to call those reviews, as they're really just intended as a quick descriptive blurb with some stats. Our community is used to that sort of thing being called a "review" but I've really tried to raise the bar on what a review is. I like our reviews here to be full of historical context and lots of other goodies. The collection galleries are really just eye candy. And I personally love them for that! Happy

(Speaking of reviews, though, check out our Reviews Section. It's gotten so big that I've gone to a three-column format. Kudos to the contributor team for their efforts!

Congrats on scoring a Dresden! I think it's absolutely perfect for your needs. The other choice, though a bit later in era, would be the A&A Cavalier, which is made especially interesting because of its thumb-ring.

(Edit: Wow, this post is so off-topic to this topic.. sorry..)

Gordon;

Oh, nice, and I guess I won't have to wait for your next E-Mail to find out what new toy you were getting ....... LOL.

Are you getting the matching dagger with it ? And how about a scabbard ? A nice expensive historically correct one ?

I too can be EVIL !

It seems to be a good rapier design that leans in the direction of a good war sword rather than a pure civilian one.

Jean;

Sorry to leave you out,! Yes, you are evil too!!! Evil And yes, you don't have to await my next email to find out what dastardly deeds I have been about... but hey, it came up, and I bit! I am indeed getting the dagger and scabbards with it, as well as (what the heck!) the by-knife, just because I HAD to, you know? So much for fiscal prudence! Hmmm...what will I sell...

Yes, the Dresden really seems like a good War Sword, not a Rapier at all, even though A&A lists it there. From the description it's not only long, but beefy too, and ought to be quite a hand full. On the other hand, it ought to bull it's way through soft targets like a meat axe, or when used like a lance, there really should be a fair amount of inertia in that puppy!

Anyway, there we are, and I'm trying to catch up to you! You're up on me a pole-axe, you know!

Sorry, Gordon!

If you still feel bad when that Dresden arrives, just send it on to me.

See...if I can nudge folks into doing stuff like this it makes my latest purchase seem like nothing at all. Like the joke about the guys running from a bear:
"we can't outrun this bear!"
"I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you.

Razz

Sean;

Your apologies are such sweet sorrow... HA! Your pen dripping with the joy of watching a friend move next door to a cathouse, knowing that his life savings are about to be thrown to the winds, but he'll love every minute of it! (I had another word other than "Thrown" but thought better of it... Surprised ) But in the "Whoever dies with the most toys wins!" game that we all seem to have involved ourselves, I guess it's a great service that you have done me!

Per the Bear, well, hopefully this "Magnum" sword will be sufficient. If not, well, I'll die happy! But I can run pretty fast...

Cheers!
