Patrik, the axe and the Vinland look especially nice! You're on your way to being a very well outfitted Viking... Now you just need some armour. Wink

Oh this is getting bad, what do I find myself starting the ordering process for yesterday? The Xa.1 from Records of course... that's even before the other two are delivered...

Maybe we should start a support group..call it (SADS) sword addiction dis-order society and see if we can qualify for government funding? (To support the habit .not cure it silly.....) WTF?!

William;

Oh, I like that idea: The government paying for our addiction would be a great idea with "Sword Exchange" centers where we could get clean new sword instead of having to share or exchange bloody swords in dark alleyways. (Politically correct bloody swords i.e. risk of cutting yourself while sharpening, test cutting or catching a sword falling out of a loose scabbard!)

Anything less would show a lack of understanding and tolerance of these "poor" (Spent too much!) victims of the scourge of SWORDOMANIA !

Oh, and lets not forget the related but rarer problem of ARMOURMANIA.

Another source, and I'm an idiot for not thinking of it sooner. A more accurate replica at lower cost in less time. What's not to love? Happy Want to guess?

Nice kit Patrick. I'm working on something similar myself.

I need a good shield also. I have the required armour either in possesion or on order. I also have a scabbard on order for the sword. The shield is the one major item that I still need.

I'm assuming that helmet was made for some kind of sport combat? It's nicely done for that purpose, but I would love to see an authentic helm done with those pieces. I love migration era helms.

Hey Russ,
I am very curious as to who you are commisioning for the Xa.1. I think I know but don't want to be too nosey.
You must let me, or all of us know how this unfolds. . .

If you want us to guess...... knowing your predilections, Russ, I guess A&A. will be making that fabled Xa for you.

I'm guessing Patrick Barta since A&A has already been mentioned. What do you mean by more accurate? The Raven looks pretty accurate to me and having handled an old Raven copy of this sword I can vouch for its exquisite handling.

Roger get's the prize! Happy I was talking to Chris the other day and... anyway I haven't worked out all the details yet and I expect that my collection will take a few more hits to accomodate it but... What can I say, there's three swords I've always wanted. The Sture sword (check) the Xa.1 and that XVIIIb that Peter is doing the research on now.

Well I finally decided to take the plunge and order a custom rapier from Darkwood Armory. Scott Wilson and I have had numerous e-mail conversations and have decided to base it on the following example. Can't waite to see the finished product. Mr. Wilson says 12 weeks or more. There is going to be a bit of experimentation with this one.

Russ,
What are you planning for the grip covering? A&A's standard black or brown leather or leather over cord or wire etc? Are you leaving the hilt construction up to Chris and the team or do you have specific requests?

Well to be honest I really hadn't given it any thought this is still in the very tentative stage. Now I'm going to have to think about it a bit. I think the wire wrap is going to be out right off the start though I think that it's probably to late period for that sword... hmmm...

James,
I can't wait to see what Scott does with that. That's a very nice sword!

I used to not like that form of decoration on the bars, but recently I've been looking at some pictures of originals that really have changed my mind.
