Fulvio Del Tin has changed the design of one of his company's classic swords. Because this change was not announced publicly in advance, prospective buyers may want to inquire about possible similar changes before ordering a new Del Tin. I don't know for a fact that any other changes are being made, but here's a description of the one I know about:

Subject: Changes to design of #2153?
I have just purchased a sword of type 2153 from Albion Armorers, which I believe just arrived in America a few days ago from your factory. The sword differs from your picture and description of this sword type. It has a fuller on the blade rather than a flattened triangular cross section, and the pommel is plain iron rather than silver plated. Has the design of this sword been changed? Or is the sword something that was mistakenly assembled from incorrect parts?

Dear Sir,
1. The dimension and design of the sword 2153 has not changed.
There was an improvement in the material of its pommel and guard.
It was silver plated BRASS and now it is STEEL.
The ricasso is now with a small fuller in place of the flattened part, this provide to the strong more thickness
I hope you like the sword with this little changes.
I will change the picture of this sword in my website as soon as possible
Sincerly
Fulvio

Ouch, Steve...Did you really say Albion Armorers instead of Del Tin in your message to Fulvio?

And thanks for the heads-up. Hoepfully the Del Tin ebmasters will upgrade their site with new pics very soon.

That design change was made years ago - I think it was in 2000. I mention this in my review of the sword http://www.myArmoury.com/review_dt2153.html

Yeah, there're a lot of Del Tin models that have changed over the years. If you look at Del Tin's official page, you'll see that some of the models, such as their cup hilt rapier, don't look the same as they do on the websites of many American dealers.

This is another change, not the one described in your review. The sword you reviewed has the flattened diamond cross section blade pictured on the Del Tin and Albion web pages. The new version replaces the flattened area with a recessed fuller. There are no photos of this new blade style posted anywhere that I have found.

Hello Fulvio! Very nice to see you here...

I own the (newer, but not 2003 model) DT2153 and am a big fan of the sword. I was pleasantly surprised by its characteristics upon receiving it, and a big supporter of your design changes. I find the newer version's changes to be big improvements on this model!

Here are photos of my piece: http://www.myArmoury.com/swor_dt2153.html

Cheers!

It was not my intention to criticize, just to publicize. The original sword that this design was patterned after has a very distinctive blade, and the change makes the blade more similar to what is seen on other examples. Some buyers might want a sword that looks more like the original one, others might want a more functional sword.

Every manufacturer has the right to make design changes whenever they desire. My apologies if the original post was seen as an attempt to undermine the reputation of your work, which I admire enough to have four other Del Tin swords already hanging on my office wall.

Excellent.
I am pleased to read this.
I feel that sometines it is not easy to meet the customers expectations.
For example, some of them want heavier swords with a thick edge while some others want a sharpened edge. I prefer to make the standard edge not sharpened.
Besides when it is the case I want to improve my products
