Hi , could anybody out there tell me where I could get hold of the address (or Email) of Marto swords of Spain as I want to ask them if they would sell me the hilt only of their Lund sword. As I want to get a couple of them to take apart into individual hilt components especially the scabbard mouth, which they have made attached to the underside of the lower guard, I want to fit the pommel, upper and lower guards separately but I will make a new grip (using twisted silver wire) and not use the Marto one. Failing this I may just carve my own waxes and cast one to go on a nice pattern welded blade that I've ordered.
Any help would be appreciated,
Cheers, Bruce

Bruce ,I believe a version of the Lund hilt components is available from Mercia Sveiter.I haven't seen them in life but they look decent on the website(if a bit pricey). The lower guard and scabbard mouth are properly separate, obviating the need to saw them apart .Sounds like a fun project ! Best of Luck, Scott

I confirm that the fittings can be obtained from Mercia Sveiter. http://www.mercias.co.uk/
The picture shows my Castle Keep made sword and part of my home made scabbard using (modified) mouth and chape from Mercia Sveiter.
Maybe you can obtain the hilt fittings from Rob Miller of Castle Keep, Scotland. http://www.castlekeep.co.uk/

Hi , cheers Scott and Jean. yeah I've seen Druids (Mercia Sveiter) Lund hilt fittings before. they are ok, however, at the risk of sounding picky, I would prefer the Marto one as the Section of the lower and upper guards seems to be thicker. Also the speculative reconstruction of the pommel isn't too bad in my opinion. Plus the castings seem to really reflect the artistry and detail of the original. But again cheers for the response guys.

Bruce, I think were talking about what's typically called the Dyback sword....I've only ever seen this referred to as the Lund sword on Regia's page....is there another similar sword from Lund....or is it just another name for the same sword?
If it is the Dyback sword, there was a interesting discussion a while back that involved it's sister pommel showing what it might have looked like.

Bruce,

These are quite similar, not cheap, but all of Albans gear is of exceptional quality. You would not de disappointed.

He also sells scabbard mounts too Happy

If you are having a pattern welded blade made then these would finish the job off nicely.

Hope that this helps.

Regards,

Russ

Firstly to Dan, yeah I am also familiar with this sword also being known as the Dyback sword. Anyway a big thanks for the link to the previous thread on the same topic, I was also unfamiliar with this "sister" sword so the pics of its pommel will come in useful. I know you were a contributor on the last discussion, so I really appreciate you taking the time to bring me up to speed, so to speak.
Secondly to Russ, again, thanks for the tip, I am familiar with Albans lovely work, we have a link to his site on ours, and the thing is if you are refering to the lovely hilt set thats on his 'specials' page then unfortunately I've done a copy of this myself.
His of course, is cast, mine, sadly had to be "carved' from lumps of bronze using a grinder and a Dremel. His grip ferrules are silver mine are Pewter. Albans sword grips looks like oak or ash maybe, mine is Cocobolo, not indiginous to Northern Europe in the dark ages I don't think, but hey it looks nice!
Anyway here are pics of mine next to Albans (mines the one on the left, (just in case you couldn't tell, lol!))
Cheers guys,
Bruce

This is my artistic impression of what the Vrangaback pommel would look like on the Dyback(Lund) hilt. Nice I think.
So again big thanks to Dan for pointing me more in the right direction. Rather than using a 'speculatively' reconstructed Pommel I think a hybrid of the two would be more fitting.
