Here are some good examples of black Austrian harness of ca. 1510 (Florian, no less!). The last one is especially elegant, with its dark surface and gilt edging. Unlike many images of dark armour, these are not easily dismissed as the result of tarnished silver paint. The heads of the lances are silver-colored while the harnesses are dark (beware of images of dark armour when all the steel in the same painting also is dark).
