Hi all,
Are there any historic examples of leather scale helmets, or are they limited to the worlds of fantasy?
Thanks,
Ken

There are scale, or at least made to look like scale, helms depicted in Celtic-Iberian artwork. I don't know of any of these being found or even what they are commonly thought to be made from. So that might be a direction to look...

Leather is a major limitation. Helmets are known which were not of solid construction (i.e. the boars' tooth helmets, and at least one Celtic helmet of bronze plates), but leather scales are more difficult.
