Here is a British or Canadian Cavalry Troopers Sword, 1885 Pattern. This sword has a 34 5/8" blade and is 1 1/4" wide at the ricasso. The back is dated 3/90 and the guard back shows 4/1891. The scabbard shows re issue dates of '94 and '98. Many marks are present on the scabbard, ricassos and the guard. The overall condition is that of an old veteran, been there, done that. The scabbard has the 2 opposing loops of the pattern 1885 Mark 1. The scabbard is marked with the Canadian M+D stamp 1894, the Guard is marked 1 Dragons Reg., with the numerous re-issue inspection stamps up to 1899. This piece may well have served in the Boer War with one of the Canadian Units and finally cleaning is the decision of the future owner.

Morgan, recently I found that sword on Ebay. Now it was perhaps bought by someone else.

Here is another British P1885 Cavalry Troopers Sword from me and this one has a sheet steel guard with a part rolled edge and a pierced Maltese Cross design stamped N.S.W.C. 198 (no photo). The full description:
The checkered black leather two piece grip is attached to the tang with five rivets and the back strap has the double arrow sale mark. The slightly curved blade has a single fuller to each side that ends 8.25 inches from the double edged point. The ricasso is stamped arrow over W.D. on the right and /87 on the left. The polished sheet steel scabbard has two strap rings on opposite sides near the throat which is stamped N.S.W.C. 125 and has the double arrow sale mark. The back edge and throat are also stamped /86. This sword was owned by the late Trooper William Watts, New South Wales Lancers. Trooper Watts was a member of the N.S.W. Lancers that traveled to the United Kingdom in 1898 and took part in the Aldershot tattoo. He apparently won the sword tent-pegging event. On his return to Australia the unit was diverted to South Africa and he saw service during the Boer War.
