Had to do a bunch of photos this evening. Swords ended up getting thrown into the set.

Here are swords from my own collection:

Well, I can't do it justice in a few words but here are a few words anyway: Great looking collection and makes me think that eventually I should get a few complex hilted swords in my collection even if the period is a little later than my current interest. Wink Laughing Out Loud Cool

Although, current interest just means the periods/places I'm currently concentrating on but I find weapons of all periods interesting from pre-history to " Star Trek " . Wink Design first, aesthetic second, history a close third.

A beautiful collection there Nathan. Quite inspiring I must admit, especially coming from someone who has to admit that he has never really seen the fascination in collecting modern replicas!
Do I detect a slight bias there towards shiavonas Nathan? Big Grin

A wonderful selection!

Russ

I was just gonna say: I don't think Nathan really cares for shiavonae (plural?). Razz

Very impressive collection Nathan! Is that your entire collection, or just your faves? -Ted

At the time I started having them made, nobody was really making a quality schiavona. There were a couple old and long-since discontinued production models available, but nothing of notable quality. I found the complexity of the hilt and the developmental influences intriguing and ran with it. There were a lot of people collecting British basket-hilts and I also liked them. The constructional differences of the schiavona were interesting to me, particularly the fact that the entire "basket" is only attached at the cross-guard and occasionally with a "staple" to the pommel. Very odd. I wanted one in-hand to play with it. There is a lot of variety to these swords, both in hilts and blades, and are still a couple other styles I'd like to have made.

As far as swords go, that's most of the fancy complex stuff. I also have a couple two-handers, a couple very simple ATrims, a few junk items, a Filipino piece I found in a basement when I was a kid, and an antique katana. I think that's it.

Very nice photos. I found that a nice photo on the net would give a sword a much higher perceived value. After all, we can't handle the sword through the net and the photos are all we can get for our "sense". The numeric stats are good, but they don't reach our sense directly as pictures would.

Obviously, Nathan is very good at this and his swords' value is further augmented by his photo-taking skill. Happy Thanks for sharing.

I pretend that I read this site for the articles, but eye candy like that makes it irresistible! (Whoa! Look at those beautiful curves and angles!)

Thanks for sharing, Nathan. This is a great addition to the site.

I don't know what it is about seeing a bunch of swords together that makes them so much cooler, but it works every time. They are definitely more that the sum of thier parts. Nathan great pictures as well, and that adds that much more to the aesthetic wow factor.

I had to take some new photos yesterday and earlier this evening which gave me time to do another group shot. Unfortunately, it took so much time to get my real work done that I wasn't able to get a really good shot. Nonetheless, here's a bunch of swords all grouped together to show scale:
