Well things didn't work out for me this year and I was not able to make it to Atlanta for Blade Show 2005 !
However, I did manage to get an early bird sneek-peek at some of the amazing pieces that Vince & Grace Evans will have on hand !
(which I'd have to wager are probably sold by now, as his work tends to be gone as soon as the table covering is lifted ;-)
Vince gave me his permission to post these up, if I wished, once the show got started !

So .... lets pretend were standing with the gang in Atlanta and Vince has just unveiled his table .... Ooooooh ....Ahhhhh !

Enjoy, Mac

Anglo-Saxon Sword
Composite Pattern Welded Blade, Blued Steel with Silver Accents, Bone

Persian Kard
Pattern Welded Blade, Silver Inlay, (gold inlay on his makers mark), Fossil Walrus Ivory.
The Sheath is leather over wood with Silver Mounts.

Inlay detail

Chieftan Dirk
Pattern Welded Blade with Knife & Fork, Carved Briar Wood Grip, Silver Mounts.

Anglo-Saxon Spear
Composite Pattern Welded Blade, Twisted Silver and Copper Wire Inlay on Socket.
This spear head has a narrower blade than the one that Steve Han got, and it has a plain steel split socket.
(Steve's has a full damascus socket.)

Here's the finished hilt of the Anglo-Saxon sword between the two originals that were used for inspiration !

The Saxon sword is perfect, and is inspired by one of my all time favorite swords. Wish I had the money that would be mine so fast nobody would believe it....

Oooh! Aaaaaaaaah!

Cool

I was fortunate to get a peek at these also. Made the pain of not being there a little bearable.

Was surprised that you didn't get the dirk, Mac. Or did the knife-n-fork add-on make the set up too girly for ya. Big Grin

Gotta tell ya, I struggled with the Anglo-Saxon sword, but since I already had the Type Z, I had to regretfully let that one go. It's going to a good home, I hear.

Like to know who will end up with the "other" Anglo-Saxon spear. Already have Ron Luciano as my "Brother of Turcael." Be good to extend my family tree to include "Brother (or Sister) of Saxon Spear."

Hi Steve

Nah, I'd have loved that set .... (we barbarians can occasionally be civilized ;-)
Bet that wee fork would'a come in handy :-)

Guess were both on the bench for this show ... *sigh* ... but perhaps we can regroup for Vegas :-)

Take care, Mac

Indeed. I sure hope Patrick Kelly ends up with the Anglo-Saxon spear. Not only because I like Patrick, but also because I'm getting tired of looking over my shoulders for the gang of "Boyos" he'd sent after me for getting Vince to sell me the first Anglo-Saxon spear. Eek!

Mac,

You know me. I'm always up for Vegas. Since I'm 4 hour drive away, I can always get there for the weekend. I'll look up the dates for the Vegas Knife Show and make my long-term plans accordingly.

You know, I never thought I would ever consider selling my soul to the devil for a something but that Anglo-Saxon sword would be the piece to drive me over the edge. At the very least I would happily trade my entire sword collection for that sword. It is the epitome of a masterpiece. Well done, Vince. I think there are far too few examples of pre-viking era swords made today. I hope Vince makes more from this time period.
Constant and true.

I'm sorry to say that I didn't snap up that spear head. Not only was everything sold before I got there but before the Show even opened!

I'm also happy to report that Vince won Best Sword of the Show!

I would have dearly loved to add that Anglo-Saxon sword to my collection.

I'm not home yet. I'm back up in Dalton with my family and won't be home until Wednesday evening. It was great finally meeting Vince and Grace. They're definitely classy people.

So I'm to continue to look over my shoulder in apprehension? WTF?! Eek!

Thanks for conveying the good news. Congratulations to Vince and Grace.

I'm sorry you had no chance at any of Vince's pieces, Patrick. Yes, that Anglo-Saxon sword is a beauty. I'm sure Eddie's really happy about the award, too.

What say you to Vegas in January? Good weekend, that. Custom Knife Show, Antique Arms Show, AND the SHOT show, all in the same town.

Actually, it says a lot more than that. One of the highlights of the show for me was being able to meet and speak with Vince and Grace. They are both truly remarkable artisans individually, and there is something wonderful that happens when their efforts come together, such as on the dirks. The obvious love and admiration that exists between Vince and Grace that is apparent when you see or speak with them shows up clearly in the pieces that were produced. It was my opinion that these pieces were the finest, most interesting of the entire show. There were a lot of neat and amazing things, but these beat all...

One of these days, I'll have the clear honor of owning one of these dirks. My sincerest thanks to both Vince and Grace for sharing, taking the time to talk and allow me to really understand the work.
