Gentlemen,

I recently purchased this sword http://www.museumreplicas.com/webstore/showproduct.asp made by Windlass. After some minor use the grip and guard became loose and I had to tighten the pommel. Unfortunately, the pommel no longer lines up. I am wondering if I can weld the pommel and guard in place and fabricate an alternative grip that does not require tightening. If this is possible, are there any resources on fabricating grips?

Thanks a lot for the help,

Dan

Dan-

The link you sent unfortunately just brings us to the main page, as we don't have the reference info that your browser used during that session to bring up the sword you have.

Since you tightened it up, I assume the pommel is threaded on. If this is indeed the case, sandwiching in a "washer" of thin leather matched up to the same profile as your grip may serve to provide the additional thickness you need. Will work temporarily, anyway. Since it's somewhat compressible, somewhat resilient, it should hold fairly well for a bit. It'd be a lot easier than fashioning a new grip.

Greyson Brown's thread on grip rewraps might be useful.
