I'm looking for any pictures of 15th Century longsword scabbard chapes. I've seen the reproductions that Russ, Albion, and Christian have put together but I'd really like to see some original pics.

Here are a couple that I found with a quick search.

From Gaukler Medieval Wares (I question whether the first one isn't actually a belt end that has been mis-IDed):

The next three are from the UK Detector Finds Database. The second two are listed as being from the late 15th-16th century, so they may be later than you want. If I did this right, you should be able to click on each of these pictures to go to their respective pages:

Mercier makes nice cast chapes and trys to group their products by general period. I questioned the one that looks like a strap end the first time I saw it too, but have accidentally run across a similar chape while browsing for period pictures of scabbards and suspension.

Hmmm. Maybe the first one is actually a precursor to the Landsknecht chapes.

Attached is a chape of a 15th century medieval Scottish sword that sold via Bonham's auction house back in the 90's.

I saw another similar one, at one of the Scottish museums during my last trip, as I remember commenting to Vince Evans that it looked very like this one !
