Riveted Mail Armour

Medieval Europe

This light armour consists of a byrnie (a shirt covering mid-arm and extending to the hips) and a mantle (neck and shoulder protection, worn over the byrnie). Both pieces consist of thousands of rings, each with a flattened overlap which is riveted closed. The byrnie has 16 ga. rings that are 3/8" inner diameter, and the mantle has 16ga. rings that are 3/8" outer diameter. A leather collar is is added to the mantle to enhance neck protection.
