Landsknecht Eating Set by Steve Moffatt

15-16th Century Germany

The Landsknecht were German mercenaries known for, among other things, their outlandish dress. While on long campaign, an individual's gear had to be carried with him. This eating set represents one such piece of gear and is decorated with a "puff and slash" motif common amongst the Landsknecht.

The set includes a knife and fork captured in a highly decorated scabbard, embellished with a roped and pierced metal throat, brass belt hook and chain, and metal tip with a leather tassel. Each utensil has a faceted wooden handle with brass tack decorations made en suite to a katzbalger.

Maker: Steve Moffatt of California
